Illness Benefit Certificates

You may be entitled to Illness Benefit payment from the Department of Social Protection if you cannot work because you are sick. Please check with your employer if you require this certificate to supplement your sick pay.

To apply for Illness Benefit payment please;

  1. Request a Medical Certificate of Illness from your GP. The e-Cert is sent electronically to the Department.
  2. Complete the physical IB1 form and return by post to the Department of Social Protection. Copies of this form are available at the surgery.

Requests for renewal of long-term certs can be made via email (info@wexforddoctor.ie) or during your consultation with the GP.

Please note: Social Welfare will not make a payment for the first 3 days out of work.


Covid-19 Illness Benefit

If you have Covid19 or have to isolate because of contact or testing, then you are entitled Illness Benefit Payment.

To apply for this benefit, which is payable from Day 1 of isolation, go to Department of Social Protection website and fill in their IB1 form.

You must also request an electronic Medical Certificate of Illness from your GP.

Letters & Forms

Letters and form completion are available from the surgery upon request at a fee of €10 – €20 per item.

Please complete all relevant sections of your form before handing it into the surgery. Please allow up to 7 working days for these forms to be completed.
