About the practice

This practice was started when Dr. Bart Curtis joined his predecessor Dr. Pax Sinnott in 1957 in Rocklands, Wexford. Dr. Bart moved to Waterloo Road and set up practice in St. Aidans in 1959. Dr. Felix Kerins joined him in 1973 and they moved into St. Joseph’s medical centre next door in Waterloo Road in 1977. Dr. David Curtis joined the practice in 1989 followed by Dr. Fiona Barry in 1996. The practice was joined by Dr. Brian McRedmond in 2009 and acquired the building next door to St. Josephs at the same time. The two buildings were joined together to create Sunnyside Medical Centre. Dr. Kes Finnegan and Dr. Aideen Moroney joined the practice in 2015.

We have a wonderful support and administration staff with our Practice Manager, Tara being the longest present since 2001. She is ably supported by Jackie, Anna Marie, Karen and Emily. Anne Marie was part of our admin staff and has now moved to providing a phlebotomy and ECG service and more recently added Aoife to this department also.

Dr. David Curtis

Doctor

David grew up in Wexford and attended St Peters College, Wexford, and the Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland where he qualified in 1983. David has extensive experience in general practice and specifically sports injuries, Musculo Skeletal and occupational medicine. David specialises in preventative medicine especially cardio vascular disease prevention. He was Medical Advisor to the Federation of Irish Cycling in 1990’s and worked on many International cycling races in Ireland and the UK from 1984 to 2009 including the Nissan Classic, Tour of Britain, and the 1998 Tour de France for its passage through Ireland, as well as the Inaugural Tour of Beijing Cycling Race 2011 and 2012.

He is Tutor to the GP under- graduate program of UCD Medical School and is the ICGP Tutor to the Wexford Town Branch of the ICGP.

During the Covid-19 pandemic, David has been working with the HSE in assisting their management of the crisis. In his spare time, David is an avid cyclist and water enthusiast.

Dr. Fiona Barry

Dr Fiona Barry MB, BCH, BAO, DObs, DCH, MRCGP, HDip OCCMed Dr Fiona is one of three Practice Partners having joined the surgery in 1995. Fiona graduated from UCD in 1991 with MB, BCH, BAO. She furthered her career working in hospitals  Ireland, including a paediatric rotation in Temple St and Obstetrics and Gynaecology in the Rotunda Hospital, Dublin.

Fiona then completed her GP training scheme in Kent, UK and obtained her membership of The Royal College of General Practitioners in 1995. She has furthered her education in line with some of her interests and holds diplomas in Children’s health and Obstetrics as well as certificates in long-acting contraception and Family planning. Fiona holds a Higher Diploma in Occupational Medicine from UCD and works with many local Companies.

She also specialises in dermatology and menopause having studied these extensively.  She takes a keen interest in adolescent and pediatric health.

Dr. Brian McRedmond

Dr Brian Mc Redmond is a graduate of UCD Medical School, graduating in 2001 and receiving specialist training in General practice with the UCD GP training scheme. He worked in St Vincent’s Hospital, St Michaels Hospital, Our Lady’s Hospital in Crumlin and Newcastle Hospital, Wicklow. He also worked in general practice in Toronto. He also has a degree in engineering from UCD and worked for several years as a chemical engineer. He has a particular interest in the role of diet in health.

Dr. Kesree Finnegan

BMedSci, BMBS, MRCPI, DCH, DRCOG, MICGP

Dr. Kes graduated from the University of Nottingham in 2002 with BMedSci and BMBS She has worked Accident and Emergency & Medicine in Australia and United Kingdom.

Dr. Kes moved to Ireland in 2004 and where she worked predominantly in Renal Medicine. In 2007 she was awarded membership of the Royal College Of Surgeons. She undertook her GP training in the South East and was awarded Membership of the ICGP in 2015. During training she also obtained a Diploma in Child Health, Obstetrics and Gynaecology. She also holds a European Certificate in Palliative Care.

Dr. Kes’ special interests include Renal and Chronic Disease management, and Women’s Health, in particular Menopause and Fertility. Along with Dr Fiona Barry she holds a certificate in Long-Acting contraception and Family Planning.

Dr. Finnegan joined our staff in 2015.

Dr. Aideen Moroney

MB, BCH, BAO, DObs, DCH, MRCGP

Doctor

Dr Aideen graduated in 1989 from University College Cork with MB, BCH, BAO. She worked for a number of years in hospital medicine in Ireland before moving to the UK to complete her GP Training in Paddock Wood, Kent.

Dr Aideen was awarded her membership of The Royal College of General Practitioners in 1994. She also holds diplomas in Obstetrics and Child Health.

Aideen worked for several years in General Practice in Scotland before returning to Ireland in 2000. Since then, Aideen has worked in General Practice throughout Wexford before joining Sunyside in 2016.

Tara Cook

Practice Manager

Tara graduated form the University of Southampton with a BACS Hons in English Literature and Psychology. She has worked in the United Kingdom and Ireland across all fields of primary care including community homecare and nursing home care.

She joined our practice in 2006.

Anne Marie Stafford

Phlebotomist

Annemarie (Annie) joined the practice in 2010 having previously worked in another medical practice in Dublin. She worked as Medical Secretary for 10 years and in 2019 she completed a course in Phlebotomy & ECG training in Kingsbridge Private Hospital Belfast. She  started her new position as a  Phlebotomist  in January 2020 and she is enjoying her new role immensely.
